Response To COVID-19 And The Need For An Attorney

Our law firm mainly helps families who have recently dealt with death, are facing long term care issues, or are planning for their estate. A large chunk of our practice focuses on people who are in assisted living, independent living, and skilled nursing homes or have in-home caregivers in their home. This is the most at-risk population for COVID-19 and, out of respect for our clients, we are gravely serious about maintaining proper social distancing according to CDC guidelines. We are still open for business for initial consultations.

This time could be viewed as an opportunity to get to see us sooner because we are normally booked very far in advance. Openings will quickly fill once the social distancing guidelines are lifted. Now is the best time to get started. If you want to get started with us, but want to maintain your distance, we have created a detailed tech guide for our clients and potential clients to conduct online meetings. In this handout, which is available on our website, you’ll learn about the software programs that we use to conduct online meetings and the hardware that is needed for those meetings. We also explain where to get the necessary items, if you do not have them at this time.

If you have a smartphone, a tablet, or a computer, in most cases we can conduct a face-to-face meeting utilizing our office’s ability to share the documents we are reviewing. In our guide, we also explain ways for you to transmit information to us without physical contact. Learning alternative ways of communicating not only will allow you to do business with us, but will also allow you to connect with family members who may be quarantined in a building you don’t have access to. If they also have a smartphone, tablet, or computer, your loved one can be instructed on how to use it over the phone. It could be a good reason for many different generations. I hope that this can be used as a tool to grow closer together as a family at this time of great crisis and need.

As far as document signings, we have established a procedure for in-office appointments where we will maintain social distancing by using video conferencing software, if needed, but also utilizing a central drive through service. You can park your car and we will hand everything off to you, with gloves on, and witness the signing from a safe distance, in order to have the documents still be legally and validly executed. We are up and running and prepared to utilize the Florida remote online notary (RON) statute that was recently passed. This will allow us to do online notarizations using conferencing software to notarize and witness documents. For more information on “Updated Signing Procedures – COVID-19”, please click here.

If you have any issues or concerns about our office’s policy on COVID-19, we will have this information readily available upon request and on this website. If you do come into the office, we have a much lighter office staff than usual; approximately half of the office staff is working from alternative locations. We are fully stocked with sanitation wipes and disinfect surfaces after any new visitor enters or exits our office, including post office workers. Thank you for bearing with us in this time of crisis.
